The Portage Thunder Ringette Association is hosting a “Come Try Ringette” free event on Saturday, September 27 at 10:45 AM at Stride Place. Open to everyone ages 3 and up (no skating experience required, all genders welcome). This session introduces kids and teens to ringette in a fun, supportive environment with help from coaches and Thunder players. After the skate, families can stay to learn about the upcoming season, which offers affordable registration (only $100 for the year), skill development, and opportunities to join teams across all age groups.
Ringette is a team sport that focuses on team play. In order to advance the ring to the other side, teammates must pass it over the blue lines to another teammate. Each end also turns into a 3v3 play while avoiding skating into the goal crease. Players focus on skating skills, team play, quick decision-making while learning how to read the ice and working together under pressure. The game builds confidence, communication, and strategy while keeping the focus on speed, agility, and teamwork.
